Athens - Vasilissis Sophias Avenue

The Vasilissis Sophias Avenue

This very central avenue is named after Queen Sophia and is the most elegant and expensive in all of Athens. It starts from Platia Sindagma going north, and runs along the Parliament building and the national gardens. It has several elegant neoclassical villas, perfectly restructured and currently housing the most important embassies. Some of the best museums of the city are situated on the avenue, like the Byzantine museum and the museum of Cycladic art.

On a level with the national gardens there is also Odos Irodou Attikou, where the Greek Prime Minister's palace is situated and where you can see the Evzoni, the President's official guards recognizable by their typical period costumes with the short skirt.
